About the Anti-Union Recall Election (Vote NO by Sept 14th)

IBEW 569 Brothers and Sisters,

On September 14th, there is a Recall Election for the Governor of California, Gavin Newsom.

We know that politics can be confusing and upsetting. If we’re totally honest, we wish we could avoid this election. However, it has always been our priority to take action to put more IBEW 569 members to work, and we know we can’t sit this one out. Our union contracts, healthcare benefits, and pensions are under attack, and we are asking you to VOTE NO ON THE RECALL.

The anti-union candidates trying to replace Governor Newsom all share one thing in common: They have a long history of attacking prevailing wages and pensions. One of the leading replacement candidates, radio talk show host Larry Elder, even said there should be NO minimum wage!

You may not agree with our choice, and we know the discussion around Governor Newsom addresses a wide variety of issues. But this election isn’t about masks or other social issues – those are things that the anti-union groups are using to distract voters from their actual goals.

The recall backers are part of a national network of anti-union interests that attack prevailing wages, project labor agreements, union jobs, pensions, minimum wage laws and voting rights. Learn more at www.NoAntiWorkerRecall.com.

If the recall is successful, we’ll lose many of the hard-fought gains we’ve made on higher wages, and paid sick leave. That’s why I am asking you to VOTE NO ON THE ANTI-UNION RECALL.

Under Governor Newsom’s leadership, we kept working throughout the pandemic when he deemed us essential workers, and we’ve secured major gains like project labor agreements and electric vehicle and infrastructure investments – all of which are at risk with the anti-union recall.

How does the Recall election work? There are two questions on the ballot. First: Should Governor Newsom be recalled?  Our answer is “NO!” The second question asks: Who should replace the governor? To that we say, “NONE of THEM!” – just leave it blank.

Your ballot should arrive by mail THIS WEEK. We need you to complete and return your ballot by September 14. For information on voting, go to: https://www.sos.ca.gov/elections.

California IBEW Local Unions, the California State Association of Electrical Workers, and the California Building Trades Council – are all unanimously against the Anti-Union Recall!

We can disagree on some issues, but IBEW 569 will continue to endorse candidates and policies that put our members to work – that’s always the determining factor and I hope you will join me in voting #UnionStrong and VOTING NO ON THE ANTI-UNION RECALL.

Jeremy Abrams
